Application of Cytidine diphosphate choline
Cytidine 5′-Diphosphocholine is widely available internationally as a supplement, which was originally developed in Japan for the treatment of acute cerebrovascular disorders.
Citicoline can improve learning, memory, judging, and thinking processes. And improve recovery in patients with disturbance in consciousness in patients with head injury or any other problems associated with the brain and who underwent surgery.
Cytidine diphosphate choline has been investigated for the treatment of depression, schizophrenia, stroke, Parkinson disease, brain injury, and cognitive deficits (ie, mild to moderate dementia and Alzheimer disease, cerebrovascular disorders), as well as for its ophthalmologic effects.
Supplementation with Cytidine 5′-diphosphate Choline increases choline stores available for other biosynthetic pathways.
Citicoline appears to decrease glutamate levels in the brain and increase adenosine triphosphate, which in turn offers protection against ischemic neurotoxicity. Increased glucose metabolism in the brain and cerebral blood flow has also been demonstrated, as well as increased availability of the neurotransmitters acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
Cytidine 5′-Diphosphocholine can promote the rapid repair of damaged cell surfaces and mitochondrial membranes, maintain cell compactness and biological functions, and reduce the release of free fatty acids, thereby reducing the generation of toxic oxygenated metabolites and free radicals.
Citicoline increases vasopressin and plasma epinephrine levels and stimulates the release of growth hormone, thyrotropin, and luteinizing hormone.
