Chemical Structure:

2,3-Dihydroxypropyl Methacrylate Application:
2,3-Dihydroxypropyl Methacrylate is a bifunctional monomer containing both a vinyl group and two adjacent hydroxyl groups. Its molecular structure confers both reactivity and hydrophilicity, this makes it widely used in fields requiring the introduction of hydrophilic segments or subsequent chemical modifications, particularly within biomedical materials and high-performance aqueous polymers. Below are its main applications:
- Hydrophilicity and biomedical materials
Hydrogels: By copolymerizing with other monomers, highly absorbent polymer networks can be produced, which can be used for:
Contact lenses: Providing outstanding oxygen permeability and wearing comfort;
Wound dressings: Creating a moist healing environment that absorbs exudate without adhering to the wound;
Controlled drug release systems: Acting as carriers to regulate the gradual release of pharmaceuticals within the body;
Biocompatible coatings: Modifying the surfaces of medical devices (such as catheters and sensors) to impart hydrophilicity, anti-protein adhesion, and anti-thrombotic properties.
- High-performance coatings and inks
Radiation-curing system: Used as an active diluent in UV/EB curing coatings, inks and adhesives. It can provide excellent adhesion, high reactivity, as well as good leveling and flexibility.
Hydrophilic, anti-fog and anti-soiling coatings: Employed on automotive glass, bathroom mirrors, agricultural films, protective visors and etc., to prevent surface condensation and fogging.
Cross-linking agent: Its two hydroxyl groups serve as cross-linking sites, reacting with isocyanates, amino resins and etc., to form more robust, durable three-dimensional network coatings. This enhances hardness, scratch resistance and chemical resistance.
- Adhesives and Sealants
Reactive adhesives: Employed in acrylic structural adhesives and anaerobic adhesives to enhance toughness and bonding strength across diverse substrates.
Pressure-sensitive adhesives: Used to adjust the viscosity, cohesive strength and peel strength of acrylate pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- Textiles and Fibers
Fiber: Employed to modify synthetic fibers, enhancing their hydrophilicity and dyeing properties.
Textile: Enable the textile to have functions such as anti-static and moisture-wicking properties
